The Bees Knees Dress

Four years ago, while perusing a fabric shop in Seattle, I cam across the most lovely black rayon fabric filled with one of my favorite specimens, bees.

Bees may not be everyone’s cup of tea, but I especially enjoy bumble bees, and there bumbling ways that make me feel like they are a bit drunk. I love the bees the filled up the lavender field I visited when I was younger and once I learned not to be afraid and leave them beeeee (pun intended), I never was stung again. Nasty hornets are another story.

I debated the best choice of pattern for this dark material, that could easily be a more winter vibe but bees are for the summer and this dress called out to me. In ancient Egypt, Egyptians believed that bees represented reincarnation because they would disappear in winter and suddenly reappear. This is actually due to hibernation but I still feel like bees are magical creatures that are essential to make flowers bloom and grow our foods.
